Urban Roots Produce – In Ice Cream!
This summer we are thrilled to announce we will be offering a flavored ice cream as an add-on to our CSA utilizing Urban Roots youth-grown produce. Ice cream flavor maven Ashlee Olds of Sweet Science Ice Cream visited Urban Roots to meet with our youth to taste ice cream and brainstorm new flavors. Some of the ideas included chocolate beet, strawberry mint and cucumber melon sorbet.
Ashlee is the owner of the start-up Sweet Science Ice Cream. She is a native Saint Paul Eastsider and currently sells her ice cream at Verdant Tea in Minneapolis. She uses mostly local ingredients in her ice creams and adds absolutely no fillers or preservatives. The result is delicious!
After the flavor brainstorm, Ashlee took the ideas back to the kitchen to start experimenting. Later this month youth will taste test again and choose several Urban Roots flavors for this summer’s CSA. The ice cream featuring Urban Roots produce will exclusively be sold at our CSA pick-ups and will be available for purchase Thursdays from 4:30pm-6:30pm outside Urban Roots’ new office at 463 Maria Avenue in Saint Paul. You don’t need to be a CSA member to try the tasty Lemongrass Ginger Bark ice cream!
