@florenceandthemachine might tell you to run fast for your mother, father, children, sisters, and brothers, but wouldn't it be more fun to run fast for Urban Roots?

We’re thinking of being a Charity Partner for the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon (Oct 4-6). As a Charity Partner, we’d have access to $129 marathon entries and $105 10 mile entries (+processing fees) that you could use to run and raise funds as part of our team. You might even get to run with some of our staff members!

If you’re interested, please let Sara know (including which race distance) at SJohnson@UrbanRootsMN.org. We’ll follow up to let you know if there’s enough interest.

Last Thursday, Sustain Saint Paul hosted its monthly meeting at Urban Roots! Residents and local environmental advocates listened to a presentation given by @capitolregionwatershed, Minnesota Water Stewards, and Stop Over Salting. We learned about reducing pollution from winter deicing, as deicing chemicals permanently pollute water, harm vegetation, and damage built infrastructure. Our presenters discussed the problem and strategies individuals, property owners, and representatives can implement. Want to learn more about Smart Salting? Join us on Feb 1 to learn proper knife skills for your culinary adventures from @eversharpkitchenstore and enjoy a winter dinner prepared by our Cook Fresh program.

To mark the turning of the year, our menu will feature a variety of dishes from late-winter traditions. Communities around the globe use this time to celebrate the waxing of the sun with foods ranging from tamales to sheep's milk cheese. Dinner includes non-alcoholic beverages, as well as beer from @fairstatecoop (for ages 21+). Space is limited so get tickets soon ($50/person)!

Here are some of our last 2023 market memories ✨ It has been a great year doing market shifts with our youth! We got to improve our market skills 💵 and learn more about each other 👥 as well as getting to learn more about our produce too! 🥕😊🍆

Two of our staff members (Elly, center, and Hayley, second from the right) recently travelled to Nashville with longtime partner @mhealthfairview (also pictured) as a part of the Invest Health initiative. Invest Health (InvestHealth.org) is a cohort of 50 small to mid-size cities working together to address the social determinants of health. During the trip, the Saint Paul team worked to strengthen relationships across city teams to align on collaboration opportunities that address social drivers of health and improve racial equity, including through community development interventions.
