Food for Thought: Film & Discussion Series
Our youth interns are joining leaders and community members in the local food movement for an exciting exploration of the food revolution through films and food. These events are offered in partnership with Urban Roots, Urban Oasis, First Lutheran Church, Heavenly Day Cafe and the Women’s Environmental Institute. Homemade soup and bread will be served! The cost to attend is $5 per evening.
Tuesday, April 7 – Fed Up (6:00 – 8:30 PM)
You are what you eat. Why are American’s sicker and heavier than ever before? Narrated by Katie Couric, the film Fed Up uncovers why, despite media attention, the public’s fascination with appearance, and government policies to combat childhood obesity-generations of American children will now live shorter lives than their parents did.
After the film, interact with our youth interns and community members in a lively discussion of the film. Please RSVP through Community Education.
Tuesday, April 21 – Growing Twin Cities (6:00 – 8:30 PM)
Twin Cities’ restaurants and organizations alike have a growing commitment to the farm-to-table movement, not only because the food is better, it can be a powerful economic engine in our communities. The film Growing Cities will be the foundation for an exciting conversation with a panel of local farmers, food preparers, and organizations on the forefront of this effort.
After the film join a panel of East Side Urban Growers for a lively discussion of the film. Please RSVP through Community Education.
