Gardening with the East Side Community
Who managed to overhaul two gardens in three days? You did! With an outpouring of support from our own Saint Paul East Side, we were able to transform our urban garden sites at both First Covenant and Dayton’s Bluff Youth Garden! We have doubled production space at each site to bring more delicious veggies to the community.
We had great support from volunteers on both weekends — without them this wouldn’t have been possible! We had representatives from:
Dayton’s Bluff Community Council
180 degrees
Urban Roots alumni
Macalester college students
Normandale college students
Urban Roots CSA members
Urban Oasis
U of M Service Learning
Community members from the neighborhood
Urban roots youth interns & staff
Our volunteers received a delicious pizza lunch served up by Dayton’s Bluff resident, Barry Madrone, from his wood fired pizza trailer from Fire on the Bluff.
The fence at Dayton’s Bluff Youth Garden is being built by a group of carpenter apprentices from the carpenter’s union in the coming week and we are so excited to partner with them on this opportunity!
We look forward to planting at Dayton’s Bluff Youth Garden after construction with youth from Dayton’s Bluff Elementary and volunteers from AgriBank and Genysys Works.
