Urban Roots Plant Sale & Edible Streetscape Event

Tis’ the season we are gearing up our urban crop sites, maintaining native habitat in our urban parks, hiring youth for our summer program, working with school & volunteer groups and planning our outreach & community based events.  Each year there are many exciting spring events we are involved in from volunteer service days, fundraisers, garden restoration projects, naturalist events and more.  First on the docket was our Earth Day Celebration at Swede Hollow Park and Dellwood Gardens, it was a beautiful day with a great turn out to help clean up our parks and vegetable production gardens!

We are now very excited and looking forward to two upcoming events:  Urban Roots 1st Annual Plant Sale & ‘Edible Streetscapes’. Our plant sale is a youth internship program fundraiser and will feature favorites that our Market Garden & Conservation crews cultivate during the growing season.  Youth interns have potted up unique heirloom tomatoes, peppers, herbs and edible flowers that will be available for sale.  Interns also selected their favorite native flowering plants from Glacial Ridge Growers to feature at the sale for your home garden landscapes!  The plant sale will take place for only TWO DATES at the Swede Hollow Cafe patio: May 14th 9am-12pm & May 26th 4:30pm-7:30pm.

We have also teamed up with Urban Oasis & Dayton’s Bluff District Council for the ‘Edible Streetscapes’ project along E 7th St, come on out for planting, healthy snacks, shop the plant sale and to meet your neighbors.  This event is just part one of a three part ‘Edible Streetscape’ series so there will be more opportunities to engage the East Side community around plants, food and wellness.  Check out more info about this series from Urban Oasis.
