National Volunteer Week
For National Volunteer Week, we are sharing two stories of our volunteers. Below, read about Steve Bonfig, a community volunteer and Urban Roots Board member, as well as the Land O’ Lakes Young Professionals Network, who have joined us annually in gardens since 2022.
In 2024, Urban Roots hosted 683 volunteers! Volunteers in our Market Garden program help us grow and harvest vegetables in our five urban plots on the East Side of St. Paul. Through the gardens, we teach youth important job skills, work to address food insecurity on the East Side, and sell produce to support our vital programming. Our Conservation program develops job and life skills among our youth interns while supporting nature. Conservation volunteers help to restore our local parks by removing displaced plant species, planting trees and native flowers/grasses, collecting native seed, engaging in citizen science, and cleaning our parks of trash and debris.
We are so grateful for our volunteers–thank you for helping to nourish our community through food, nature, and the power of human connection! Click here to learn more about volunteering.
