Here in the Urban Roots Conservation Program, we use a number of strategies to make sure the seeds we gather with our interns in the fall will be ready to join the prairies, woodlands and wetlands we steward in the spring.

We have signed on to and are sharing this statement from nonprofit hunger-relief organizations serving Minnesota.

Each season of Food Stories reflects the depth and beautifully intricate contributions of community members, youth interns, and Urban Roots staff who shared their recipes, memories, and experiences in our kitchen.

Our tree canopy is one of the most prominent features of our urban landscape, and yet one that is infrequently discussed at length. We all benefit from healthy trees in our communities, and yet so many streets are still lacking in healthy canopy. Why is that, and what can we do to change the situation for the better?

St. Paul’s East Side is finding it hard to breathe deep. According to the American Lung Association an adult person takes about 20,000 breaths a day, or about 7.5 million inhale-exhales a year. Pollutants like lead, arsenic, and other particulate matter cause serious health issues for humans and per the Minnesota Department of Health there is no safe level of lead exposure in humans.
