Urban Roots is excited to offer community garden plots for the 2024 growing season to our neighbors at Rivoli Bluffs and the Gateway Trail Community Garden!

The garden is not only a chance to grow fresh fruits and vegetables you might not have access to in local stores, but you will also get opportunities to get to know your neighbors while getting exercise and learning new skills. Urban Roots is here to offer support and resources and help you along, no matter your skill set. Gardening is a substantial time commitment, but we promise the rewards are well worth it!

Garden plots are currently only be offered to residents on or around St Paul’s East Side. Fill out either application below to reserve a place at either of our garden for the 2024 growing season!

What is the Rivoli Community Garden Program?

Urban Roots hopes to bring community members together to share their agricultural skills and connect their home and community by placing them in the garden site and providing support needed to bring forth an abundant harvest and a thriving neighborhood.

What will I be given?

Participants in the community garden program are given a plot to grow vegetables in a community garden, access to water, potentially access to tools, and optional education on how to successfully garden in Minnesota.

What are the requirements to participate?

Gardeners can choose to garden whenever and however they want, but we ask that participants volunteer approximately 16 hours a month to the maintenance of a personal plot, follow all garden rules, and meet with Urban Roots staff every four weeks. This is to be respectful of your fellow neighbors plots and shared space.

Who can apply?

All Railroad Island community members interested in gardening, including immigrants, refugees and new Americans are encouraged to apply.

Where will my garden be?

Our community gardens are located at Rivoli Bluffs, Arkwright St. N, St. Paul MN and Gateway Trail Community Garden, 290 Arlington Ave E, St Paul, MN. Qualifying applicants will be assigned to a specific plot at the garden site based on the availability of the plots. Applying for a garden plot does not guarantee placement.
