Summer Events & Marketing Intern

Hours: 8 hours per week for approximately 13 weeks
Our Annual Fundraising Dinner: For four years now, Urban Roots has held a fun and lively fundraising dinner to raise money for our youth programs, spread awareness about our work and the youths’ successes, and celebrate our community. Last year’s fundraising event, focused on local food, was held at the Saint Paul Hotel on a Sunday evening in August and had around 120 attendees. The event included various speakers, special guest speaker, dinner and a silent auction.
Your Role: Working under the supervision of the Communications Manager and the Program Director, the intern will be involved in the planning, execution and follow-up pertaining to the 2015 event, along with other general marketing and communications work for Urban Roots.
In coordination with the Communications Manager, this position will be responsible for:
• Execution of communications timeline • Assisting with event invitation mailing, RSVPs, table seating • Assisting with mass email creation to market the event • Event marketing via social media • Blog posts about Urban Roots’ activities • Silent Auction item collection, organization and display • Creating and training others in online payment system • Venue set-up day-of event • Thank you follow-up to attendees and donors
This internship is very valuable to those seeking practical experience in marketing, communications, events, fundraising and nonprofits operations. Urban Roots will provide professional references upon successful completion of the internship.
Preferred skills are experience with event planning, fundraising, social media and marketing. Required skills are communications skills (written and verbal), attention to detail and a willingness to help out where needed. Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel and readiness to learn aspects of other computer programs such as WordPress and Constant Contact.
This is an unpaid internship with flexible start and end date, eligible for college credit upon college approval.
Total time requirement: 8 hrs/week for approximately 13 weeks • Project Start date: June 1, 2015 approximately • Project completion date: August 28, 2015 approximately • Days of the week: flexible, must include Monday-Friday • Time of the day: flexible, must be available some of the time between 8am and 4pm (afternoons preferred) •
